THE FIRST INSTITUTION: Overview of Marriage (1)

The element or elements to which an object is married (joined) to will determine in future its strengths and weaknesses . (Anonymous) According to the Concise Oxford English Dictionary, Marriage is the “ Combination of Elements ”. COMBINATION: The Act of bringing together elements with individually distinct characteristics. ELEMENT: An important basic constituent part of something complicated like a system or plan These elements may be similar or dissimilar with similar or dissimilar traits and characteristics. To marry things together (according to the Concise Oxford English Dictionary) means to “ Harmoniously Combine ”. HARMONIOUS: To form a Pleasing or Consistent whole, free from conflict. From the two, we can come up with a “combined” meaning of Marriage being the “ Harmonious ( Melodious, Sweet, Pleasant, In-Agreement ) Combination of Elements ”. in 2007 “ Hello Mi Hermano, how Iya ibeta? Hapi Daddys’ day in advance. Abeg, we would luv 2 ride with U 2 Adelakun’s 2morrow. We’ll attend our 1 st service, den join TNCBC Fathers’ day. ” This was the text message she sent me on Saturday 14 th June 2014 at 5:41PM. We (our families) were to go out together on Sunday the 15 th of June to visit one of our friends. After service when I didn’t see my Sister I decided to give her a call. After several calls, and no response forthcoming, I decided to give her Husband a call. He then told me that she was ill and was taken a private hospital at Ogba. On hearing this, I told my wife what I was told and we set out to the hospital. At the gate of the hospital, I called her husband, Biodun, and asked where he was. He told me she had been taken to the General Hospital in Ikeja and immediately we went there. At the LSUTH Ikeja the story was that there was no bed space and she could not be admitted. DOES STUDYING AND READING GUARANTEE LEARNING?

In the few years I have existed, I have seen how the "average" (though more) Nigerian Child has been forced into boxes that undermine the vast potential in them by their Parents, Teachers, Peers, and the Society at Large. I grew up hearing these words repeatedly: (1) Go to school, FACE your BOOKS; (2) STUDY hard so you can come out with GOOD GRADES and then, get a GOOD JOB, from Parents, Relatives, Family, Teachers, and Friends. I asked the question some years ago after a few experiences with graduates who had completed their undergraduate courses with GOOD GRADES, who were floored by people who had far LESSER GRADES - Does Finishing with a GOOD GRADE really show that you have learnt so much? During my National Youth Service, I met several Nigerian Graduates who boasted of GOOD GRADES but were either poor in communication and speaking GOOD (Proper) English, or had difficulty in spelling, or were unable to handle computing tools adequately (even when they were grad...
